The summer months of 2024 saw a sharp rise in demand for short-term rental housing in Greece. According to AirDNA data, this figure increased by 18% in August compared to the same period last year. Tourists actively opted for affordable rental properties, as evidenced by a drop in average travel expenses to Greece in July.
Key factors driving this demand include inflation in Europe and changing traveler preferences, as more people are looking to save while still enjoying popular destinations. The traditional vacation season also played a role, extending beyond the summer months.
On average, the cost of a night’s rental during June to August was €214, with occupancy rates rising to 70%. The situation in Athens was even more noteworthy, with the average price per night at €113 and an occupancy rate of 69%. These figures highlight the growing interest in the capital and its strong appeal in the short-term rental market.
Similar trends are observed in other European countries. Overall, demand for short-term rentals across Europe increased by 21%, with total rental revenue reaching €28.9 billion, 24% higher than last year.
If you're planning a trip to Greece and looking to book short-term accommodation, don't miss the chance to find the best option amid the growing interest and demand.
