A new trend has appeared in the Greek housing market in recent years: the purchase of holiday homes by young people, mainly from European countries.
The purchase of holiday homes in Greece by residents of European countries is something that is not unknown in our country, the difference in this case is that most people who choose to buy a holiday home in Greece in recent years are basically younger than the buyers of previous years, who were usually retired and used the property they bought in Greece mainly for their summer (and not only) holidays.
Nowadays the age group buying such properties in Greece is between 30-55 years old, much younger than in previous years. The profile of these people is quite specific and most of them are young entrepreneurs who are looking for a smart and profitable market for their future.
What kind of holiday homes new buyers choose?
According to various surveys, most new buyers choose newly built properties which most of the time have a swimming pool and a beautiful outdoor area.
They usually choose crowded places and almost always near the sea (Crete, Ionian Islands Halkidiki etc.). Often, most of these people have visited these areas before on previous summer holidays and since they particularly liked these areas they chose to make such an investment purchase.
While most people buy holiday homes in Greece with the aim of using them for investment purposes, another reason that encourages them to make such a purchase in Greece and not in Spain for example, is the fact that in Greece there is no obligation to rent out their property for the duration of the tourist season, unlike many countries where this is obligatory when buying a holiday home for the purpose of exploitation. On the contrary, in Greece, such a condition is not mandatory, since the owner is able to choose the dates, he will use the property himself and the dates he wants to lease it. This flexibility is very attractive for buyers who invest in this type of property in Greece.
