Greek Golden Visa is the leader among popular programs in the world

The popularity of the Greek Golden Visa program is growing all over the world. In comparison the received applications , it has no close competitors. The Greek “Golden Visa” has become the most popular in the world. By the end of November 2023, at least 7,750 applications had been received, an all-time record. The growth rate relative to the same period of 2022 reached 78%.

Interestingly, of the large number of applications received in 11 months, only 14 were rejected. After the approval of the application, registration of residence permits in Greece passes quite quickly, as a rule, without additional bureaucratic difficulties.

A recent IMI report mentions that the Greek Golden Visa is among the TOP most popular programs offered in the world (IMI, or Investment MigrationInsider – the leading professional source of information on citizenship and residence permit issues in the investment industry).

In general, one out of five applications receives a positive resolution from the Greek authorities. China and Turkey retain the first positions as beneficiary countries. Interestingly, the total number of applications under consideration is practically not decreasing, only in November the trend has changed – 27045 applications are awaiting a decision, and before that it was 27512.

Most of the beneficiaries of the Greek programme are from China and Turkey. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country made a forecast that in the next 2024 the citizens of these countries will submit the maximum number of applications for the “Golden Visa” in Greece. Also, citizens of Lebanon, Iran, the United States and Egypt show an active interest in Golden Visa.

According to the statistics of the agency, many of the applicants received a residence permit in Greece under the system Residency by Investment. The exact number of such citizens is: 6,405 – from China; 618 – from Turkey.

The Golden Visa gives foreign citizens the opportunity to obtain a residence permit provided that they invest in the Greek economy of a specified amount and meet a number of criteria.

Local news previously reported that from August 1, 2023, the threshold of “entry” was raised from 250 to 500 thousand euros for buyers of real estate in Greece in selected areas of Athens, Thessaloniki, Mykonos and Santorini.
