Demand in real estate market in Greece – 1 out of 4 buyers are foreigners!
According to the latest data from the Greek economic authorities, one in four purchases and sales in Greece is made by foreign buyers. Compared to the 3 previous years (2022, 2021 and 2020), in 2023 there is a significant increase in this sector and before the year is over the difference with the previous year’s tends to become very large.
Once again there is a strong interest in Greek real estate by foreign investors. In most cases this interest is for the purpose of obtaining the ‘golden visa’ and the benefits it provides.
Executives of the real estate market estimate that in the last semester of the year there will be a clear de-escalation of investments, until the new balance in the investment migration program is found.
Athens remains among the first choices of foreign investors, who now tend to turn to less popular areas of Athens, sometimes quite far from the center due to cheaper house prices.
Also, in Thessaloniki there is an increasing interest for the purchase of housing by foreign investors as well as the demand for much more modern and newly built residences.
Ιn general we can observe that through 2023 there was a significant demand for Greek real estate from China, the USA, Israel and Turkey.
According to surveys that focus on the real estate market in Greece, it is estimated that in the coming years the demand for real estate in Greece will increase from other countries, which did not choose Greece to buy a property until now.
