Djokovic to Relocate Permanently to Greece with Golden Visa – Dines with Prime Minister Mitsotakis

6/27/2025

Novak Djokovic is set to make Greece his new home, having dined with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Friday night in central Athens. The world-renowned tennis champion is reportedly joining Greece’s Golden Visa program, which grants a five-year residence permit to non-EU nationals who invest in the country.

While Djokovic’s Greek vocabulary currently consists of a few basic phrases, that’s expected to change quickly. Starting this September, the Serbian star will establish a permanent residence in Athens. His wife Jelena, and their two children, Stefan and Tara, will settle in full-time—likely in the northern suburbs, although other areas are being considered based on the English-speaking private school they ultimately choose.

Djokovic himself will split time between Greece and his international tennis commitments, using Athens as a home base.

Why Greece?

Talks between Djokovic’s team and Greek authorities began earlier this year, with the government showing great enthusiasm about the idea of welcoming such a globally respected athlete. While full details remain under wraps, the move is closely tied to the Golden Visa program and Djokovic’s long-term ambitions beyond the court.

Already fluent in 11 languages—including Serbian, English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Russian, Arabic, Japanese, Portuguese, and Mandarin—learning Greek may not be easy, but it’s just another challenge for the man chasing his 25th Grand Slam title.

Once the relocation is finalized, Djokovic is expected to expand his philanthropic and business activities—including his tennis academy and foundation—within Greece as well.

Until then, we’ll simply say: Добродошао у Грчку, Ноле – Welcome to Greece, Nole.
